“longing for a time I’ve never known.
yearning for a life that only ever lived within me.”
- Tylar knox
Anemoia explores the ache of longing for a life, connection, or sense of belonging that has never truly existed. The piece gives form to the strange nostalgia of mourning something you never had, yet somehow deeply miss.
I created Anemoia after years of questioning why I always felt a quiet sense of emptiness. I couldn't understand why I longed so deeply for things I had never experienced or why imagined memories often felt more real than my own. Anemoia is a testament to the quiet ache of longing for a place, a connection, or a version of yourself that has never existed, yet somehow feels like home.
The scratched texture represents the desperate search for something that always feels just beyond reach. Like clawing at a memory that was never yours, it embodies the discomfort of longing for a life that exists only in your imagination, yet feels as real as your own.
The blacked-out eyes represent the emptiness left behind when the connections and experiences we long for remain just out of reach. They reflect the quiet ache of searching for something your heart recognizes, but your life has never known.
